Mr. & Mrs. Ian Craib

Ms. Deborah Girvin & Mr. Jon Summerhayes
Life in Halifax
We extend belated (some extremely belated) print congratulations to the following proud parents:
  • Rebecca Sophie Katzman was born on January 14th, 1995, just missing the deadline for our last issue. Mazel Tov to Jeff and Davida.
  • Stefan John Mohrhardt was born on March 10th, 1995. He weighed a healthy 8 pounds 15 ounces when he was born, and he's still a pretty big guy. Congratulations Jim and Doris.
  • Paulie Katherine Alice Summerhayes was born on October 23 ,1995. Congratulations to Jon and Deb.
  • Morgan Giselle Hallybear Protter was born on June 10th, 1997. Congratulations to Adam and Mary. As you can see, living up in Pemberton can make you more creative!
  • Benjamin David Katzman was born on May 27th, 1997. Mazel Tov again to Jeff and Davida.
  • Leeor Amit Greenblat was born on August 15th, 1997. Mazel Tov to Pearl and Yorum. David was in Toronto for both the birth and the brit.
  •   Our regular lives in Halifax (that is, when we don't have any company) are really pretty regular. David gets up every morning and walks to Dal to work. His work day is filled with research (programming experiments on his computer, meeting with other professors, analyzing data and writing reports) and teaching (preparing lectures/labs and meeting with his TA and students). Trudy gets up every day and walks across the hall to work. Her day is filled with E-mail, web-surfing, making web pages, learning how to use new software and other miscellaneous computer stuff.
We have both been working out quite regularly. Trudy plays basketball in the women's league once a week, tries to play pick-up basketball at Dal on the other weekdays
and squash on the weekends. Dave plays a little more squash and also swims. We have started entering squash tournaments as well which has turned out to be a lot of fun. Trudy has finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in her tournaments so far. David has just begun on the tournament circuit. Trudy hopes to enter the Atlantic Open this year. It's being held in New Brunswick and we plan to be driving by on our way home from Toronto just in time for the tournament.
Our friends are mostly graduate students at Dal, which is different because, for the most part, they're quite a bit younger than we are. There are also 7 Crofton Alums currently enrolled at Dal and Trudy has either taught or coached every one. It's nice to have familiar faces around when you're far away.
    **** WEDDINGS AND ENGAGEMENTS ****
  • Yvonne Terheardt and Mark Bergsma were married only a month before David and Trudy on Saturday, July 22nd, 1995 in Ingersol.
  • Mazel Tov to David's cousin, Jackie Goldstein, who married Ted Florence on Saturday, November 16th, 1996. We both flew back to Toronto for the festivities and both the wedding and the bride were beautiful.

  • Heather McGuinness and Ian Craib were married on Saturday, July 26th in Oliver, BC.
  • Next in line, never a couple overly concerned with convention (see birth announcement above), Jon Summerhayes and Deb Girvin were married on Saturday, August 16th, 1997 in Toronto.
  • Bridget Anakin and Sherman Kwok's wedding was held on Saturday, August 23rd, 1997 in Windemere, BC.
  • Anne Marie Bonitatibus is engaged and will be married to Steve on Friday, May 8th, 1998 in Stoney Creek.
  • Saar Gilat and Hilit are engaged and plan to marry on Wednesday, June 10th, 1998 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Josh Owen and Marsha Wittink are engaged to be married on Sunday, June 28th, 1998 in Ithaca, NY.
  • David Tessler and Liz Epstein are also engaged and have set Sunday, August 30th, 1998 for the big day in Toronto.
  • Our Next Toronto Visit
We're coming to Toronto very soon. We're driving and will be in town for Passover (April 10-18). We haven't decided on exact dates yet, but we'll let you know when we do.

    MohSho Interactive Multimedia

    Continued from Page 1
program designs a survey and sets it up to run on the Web. It then collects and organizes the survey results for you. Billy had an excellent piece of software, but no time to put into its marketing. That's where MohSho Interactive Multimedia came in. Trudy overhauled his website including giving it a face-lift and adding a lot of content like help pages and tutorials. She also did extensive testing of the new survey editor that was recently put online. After getting things on the website up to speed, Trudy turned her attention to marketing. The first job was to get the site indexed properly with the search engines (ie. Yahoo, Excite, etc.) so that potential customers could find us. Next, she designed a banner and bought some web advertising. You can see an example of the banner ad on Trudy's skeleton of a website . The last step was to design and place some print advertising, which Trudy was on the absolute verge of doing when Billy went and sold his company! Trudy learned a lot (she didn't even know HTML when she started!) and gained valuable experience while working on WWW Survey Assistant, and even made a little bit of money while she was at it.
But now, it's back to Plan A. Trudy will let you all know when the MohSho website is looking cool. In the meantime keep your eyes and ears open for anyone who needs a webpage designer!
The original plan was to ease into the new business by surfing the web, creating a snazzy website with all the bells and whistles and just generally learning as much as possible. However, Plan B went into affect because MohSho Interactive Multimedia secured its first (and only) client as soon as the new computer was delivered. One of the PhD students in David's lab at Dalhousie, Billy Schmidt, sells a software product called WWW Survey Assistant. To use the program, you go to the S-Ware website. Here you input questions you'd like to use for a survey, then the
