| Unfortunately, right around this time, Trudy had a big deadline
to get the new Survey Assistant website online before some magazine
reviewers came by, so she missed out on quite a bit of fun with
the September visitors. Dr. Jamie Brehaut stopped by Halifax to visit his sister while on a trip to his home in PEI. We got to know Jamie and his wife, Dr. Dafna Cohen, when Jamie was doing a Post-Doc at UBC. ![]() |
It was a quick trip and we had a couple of good nights out together. Dr. Charles Spence was next to arrive - all the way from Cambridge University in England. Charles was finishing up his Cambridge Post-Doc before moving on to a faculty position at Oxford. Charles has the distinction of being the youngest faculty member ever appointed in Great Britain (he was 28). Charles came to Dalhousie to do three weeks of research with David and Dr. Ray Klein before starting at Oxford. Charles also came here to have a good time, and he definitely wasn't disappointed! We look forward to his next visit at the end of March and, even further forward, to visiting him at Oxford some day. During Charles' visit, Robin Flumerfelt, QC, roared into town for a week. Rob got his law degree at Dalhousie so he had lots of people to catch up with. We got our fair share of Rob, although, darn-it-all, he's allergic to Sheba, so he couldn't stay with us. Rob's a crown attorney in Toronto. To round out September, we hosted a travelling gang of Ivy's. OK, OK, there were only two of them - Trudy's Mother and Great Aunt. They were only in town for four days, but it was a true tourism whirlwind. By the end of their trip, Aunt Ivy was the only one with any energy left - Trudy and her Mother were completely exhausted. Once the Ivy's made their way back to their Ivy homes in Etobicoke and St. Catherines, Trudy and David settled into a nice routine. October was very quiet, but things picked up again in November. |

| Trudy made the drive to Toronto in record time with Sol Simpson,
who, at the time, was working in Ray Klein's lab at Dalhousie.
Sol needed a second driver to accompany him and Trudy was only
too happy to oblige. Major accomplishment: woke up at 3:30 am EST in Halifax to leave for Toronto at |

The Happy Family: David, Trudy & Sheba in Point Pleasant Park
|
4:00 am EST. Arrived in Oshawa at 8:00 pm (a mere 16 hours later).
Got picked up by Melo shortly thereafter and headed downtown.
Spent a fun evening downtown and got back to Melo's to sleep at
approximately 5:00 am. That's a very full 25 hours (Caution: do
not attempt this at home). It was a very quick trip - only one week - but Trudy managed |

| to visit just about everyone anyway. She even got down to Brockville
to lunch with Melva and to Alexandria Bay, NY to stay over with
Jenny and Frank and the kids. All in all, a very good trip. Once back in Halifax, the happy couple spent a whole four days together before David left for a conference in Philadelphia. An excellent conference, but the social side of things was more the highlight. Two of David's very good friends from his exchange trip to Israel, Josh Owen (and Marsha) and Serge Avery, and two grad student friends from UBC, Dr. Steve Heine (and Nariko) and Dr. Rachel Herz, are all currently living in Phili. Of course, David couldn't return home without stopping over in Toronto for his customary visit. |

Nothing doing now until December, when we got good charter (talk about an oxymoron: good-charter?) fares and made our way to Toronto for two weeks to celebrate the holidays. We had turkey, we had latkes and sufgoniot and we grew. The best part was showering gifts on our niece and nephews. New Year's at Grossman's was a good time, then it was straight back to Halifax on the 1st. | |||||||
| In January we welcomed our only visitor so far this year, Rachel
Dayan, who was in town for residency interviews. So, that's it. That's our latest, lamest excuse why this wasn't published earlier. We hope you'll forgive us. |
