The Happy Couple: Sunday, August 20/95

Mr. & Mrs. David I. Shore?
Not so fast... Should read: Dr. David I. & Ms. Trudy A. Shore
Perhaps our biggest news of the past three years would be the wedding. It sure made for an exhausting summer "holiday", but it was well worth it. As school came to a close in June '95, Trudy was frantically putting the finishing touches on her conversion project, which turned out to be excellent. We then dove into the wedding invitation business which was challenging, stressful and very rewarding. Thanks to David Eichhorn for all his help, but especially the late night mystic wax melting.
Next, we were off to Toronto to do about a million wedding errands in suffocating humidity and smog. We had to choose a cake, find shoes for Trudy, decide on a Ketubah, pick out tuxedos (finding just the right vest was very challenging) and do a myriad of other things. The week before the wedding, we were still working on the program for the wedding, which, of course, we insisted on doing ourselves! We never imagined
spending so much time in a Kinko's so close to the wedding! We should probably mention that most of the arrangements had been worked out before we arrived and we really only had to deal with a small fraction of the details involved. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our families and attendants who did so much to make our wedding an extraordinary event.
Finally, the big day was upon us and it turned out to

Upon her arrival in Halifax last February, Trudy realized that she was unemployed. For starters, most of you will agree that journalism is definitely out of the question. Teaching jobs are apparently quite scarce in Halifax, so Trudy decided to try to do something with computers. Her choice was between graduate school and some sort of commercial enterprise. As you probably know by now, she chose the latter. Her company's name is MohSho Interactive Multimedia. MohSho comes from, of course, Trudy's maiden and married names, but also because these were the two symbols assigned to her at Crofton House. And Interactive Multimedia is meant MohSho to imply that, although she is beginning with web design, she hopes later to get into some multimedia work and possibly some educational software development.   One of the reasons that this publication is looking so lovely is the computer we bought for the business. Here are the specs, just in case you care. It's a Power Computing (Mac clone) Powertower Pro 200 Mhz machine with 98 megs of RAM, a 2 gig hard drive, another 3 gig hard drive, a Jaz drive with four 1 gig cartridges, a video capture card, a cable modem and a 17" monitor. Our old 14" super VGA monitor has come in handy, because Macs can run multiple monitors. The computer is very fast! Especially compared to the 386 that Trudy has been using for the past 5 years or so. The new computer runs 8 times as fast, has 25 times as much RAM and nearly 100 times as much disk space. We also have a very nice scanner (Linotype-Hell Jade) and inkjet printer (Epson Stylus Color 800).
It's Been a Long Time...
From Coast to Coast
Wow, what a pair of lazy slobs, or so it may seem. We have not published a Trudy & Dave Times for over three years. Our last edition announced our engagement at New Year's 1995! In our defence, we have been a little busy with things like Trudy's conversion, our wedding, David's dissertation, teaching, several fantastic summer vacations, moving across the continent, setting up a new home, starting a small business, getting a dog, travelling, running a bed and breakfast (see pages 6-7) and assorted other frenzied activities. We apologize for the delay, but we hope you'll agree that this volume was worth the wait.   As most of you probably know, we've switched coasts. David was awarded a post-doctoral research fellowship at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Of course, David had to defend his doctoral thesis before taking up this position (sort of). And don't worry, he didn't leave it to the last minute or anything. His departmental defence was in November and his university defence was originally scheduled for early January '97, but it didn't actually happen until Monday, April 7th - three months after he had already started at Dalhousie!
  Here's how our move happened.
